We really missed going camping! This was a great trip. Kerville-Shreiner park is a nice park. It's a little close to the highways, so there is some road noise that takes away from the ambience at night. But, it's still nice.
This is a gigantic tent that Tom bought from a friend. It was nice and roomy. We could actually stand up and spread toys out all over. :-) What do you think of that fire? I was scared that we'd burn the tent down. Not to worry... our other one was in the car... just in case.
Daniel got a new bike helmet. He really enjoyed riding. For some reason, I didn't get a pic of Taylor riding without her training wheels! Yay! She didn't even realize she wasn't using them anyway.
And, he got a bike trailer that was fun to ride in! Thanks Tessa for the trailer! It was fun! We'll certainly be using it quite a bit more.
Here's our bike train. I think it's pretty cool. My legs didn't like it on the two-mile ride... half of it going up hill!

Our camping trip was Star Wars themed this year. There were skits and songs and sermons all related to Star Wars. It was really fun! I was impressed that the Pioneer girls put the whole organized the whole thing!
Taylor and I took an early Sunday morning walk to see if we could find any good birds. We spotted our first Eastern Phoebe. That made our morning!

If you haven't had the chance to visit Artworks in Bracken Village (just a few minutes down Nacodoches outside of 1604), you must give it a shot! Bracken Village is a cozy little hideway for stores of trinkets, treasures and English style delights! So, have some tea and the British Teahouse, enjoy some art with your kids art Artworks and talk a walk in the cottage gardens.
We took a class here with our homeschool group. The older kids learned about Greek pottery and created their own designs on paper. The little ones got to experiment with watercolor paints. The ladies that taught the class were very interesting and very good with the kids.
Artworks will be starting some weekly homeschool classes. Check their schedule for dates and times. Their prices are an excellent deal.

Our homeschool group recently went on a field trip to Natural Bridge Caverns. Taylor has never been and I hadn't since you was about her age. So, we were excited to go. To learn more about it, here's their website:
There's the land bridge over the cave below. The place we were standing here was a sink hole.
This is a wet cave so you see a lot of the water/ setiment formations such as the basic stelagmite and stelagtite.
The side formations on the ceiling there are called cave drapery. And, you can see some stelagmites down below. Remember, stelagmites might reach the ceiling some day. :-)
Big stelagmites here and several connecting to the ceiling... called columns. This area was lovingly names Sherwood Forest.

This area doesn't look so friendly. This is Pergatory Creek... halfway between the walkway and the abyss.
I don't remember the name of this room, but it's the largest one in the whole cave. It's impossible to photograph the expanse of this room. It's really huge.
This little pond is called Emerald Lake. Can you see why?
This is the "Valley of the Fallen Lords".
And then... there was a steep walkway to get out. And we were hustling because there was a group behind us. Daniel wimpered getting up that hill and I think I did too. I had to take an Advil just to get to sleep that night because my legs were so soar. Time to get back in shape!
Anyway, this was a very interesting trip. I'm encourage to study geology with the kids in the next couple of years. We have some great resources local to San Antonio!
