Salt water on the left, fresh water on the right.... what's going on with the daisies on the left? We're starting to notice some specs of blue in the daisies on the right and some lines of red in the celery on the right. The celery on the left seems to be sinking. :-) The bottom of it is shrivelling up. I trimmed off the bottom of both of the celery to help them absorb water. We'll see how they look tomorrow!

REQUIREMENT #2
We started the absorption experiment this week. All of the girls received flowers to bring home... some of the flowers lasted, some of them were disected. (For those who disected their flowers, I recommend Apologia Botany for study. :-) They're obviously very interested in flower parts... how encouraging!)In class, we did an absorption study on coffee filters and paper. The filters absorbed and the paper did not. We prepared celery, potatoes and white daisies for the absorption study. The cups on the left have salt added to the water. I will post pics as there are noticeable changes. I will bring them for the girls to check out next Monday night. In the meantime, feel free to duplicate the experiment at home, discuss it and have your child bring her results next Monday night.

I set up four cups of mysterious drinks for testing.
1. sugar water (sweet)
2. lemon water (sour)
3. salt water (salty)
4. bitter water (cooled black coffee)

After they took a small taste, they identified which category these would be and labelled their cups. Then, they stuck their finger in and tested each substance on different locations of their tongue. They found that some areas were more sensitive to the different tastes. :-)
